Jenny Block on Nightline - Tonight's the Night!

So, last week, (one week ago tonight, in fact) I took part in a debate about adultery and its relevance in the 21st century. We also discussed the Ten Commandments, the Bible, and whether or not people are born to cheat. What a night!

The debate took place at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas and included Jonathan Daugherty, founder and director Be Broken Ministries; Cynthia McFadden, "Nightline" co-anchor; Ed Young, pastor of Fellowship Church; Noel Biderman, CEO of ashleymadison.com; and myself. It was an hour and a half long and it was wild. The paper reported that more than 4000 people were there and I'm here to report that only a handful took a liking to me. It was mostly members of the church and they mostly had very conservative views, as you can likely imagine.

The show airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. Eastern. I hope you'll tune in and then let me know what you think. I'm curious to see what the edit looks like. You never know...

For more info, check out the Nightline website.

  1. Damn you're good! And brave. I missed the edited show but I saw the extended debate online. You didn't get much time, but you held up our end well.

I'll get an item up on Polyamory in the News later this morning.

    Cheers,

    Alan

  2. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Looks like the edited version is up now on the homepage of Nightline if you want to see it. It's in three parts, I think.

Your support means so much to me. Thanks again.

    Best,
    Jenny

  3. Jenny, you are so brave! I watched the whole version.

I'm a christian and I wanted to just tell them every time they talked about loving your spouse as Christ loves the church that I am. How much more unselfishly and unconditionally can I love him when I don't try to own him, his emotions or his sexuality?

I posted a link to the show on my blog and had some words to say in expanding the thoughts I just mentioned.

I'm not open about our relationship the way you are. I truly am working toward that. It will require job changes and things to be fully out in the open. Our quad is much more free in who we share things with than we were in the beginning.

You do such a fine job.

  4. Had dinner with my best friend after he attended the debate in Grapevine. We spent several hours discussing it and his thoughts.

I look forward to reading your book as I have many questions myself with regard to Polyamory.

Thanks for really making an impression on my friend - it stimulated some great conversation.

  7. Just watched the segments online and wanted to express my admiration for how well you handled a hostile environment. Wife and I are also Poly/Mono and it's encouraging to see that it CAN work.

  8. You were fabulous! And it's too bad there weren't more open-minded people in the audience. I would have cheered you till my voice died.

  9. I think I missed this. But I wish I would have been up there with you. I come from an evangelical chritian backround. Yoiu will NOT find monogamy in the Bible in any way shape or form. These are just traditions that did not come to be until 1200 years after Jesus.
