Jenny on BBC's World Have Your Say

I had the amazing opportunity to take part in the second half of the show yesterday where the topic was, you guessed it, infidelity. You can listen to it here. Would love to hear what you think!

  1. I just listened to it with my wife. We feel that a lot of the discussion was not about open relationships but more about the problems that happen in any kind of relationship, especially those issues related to sex. And that's really not what an open relationship is about.

Ruth Houston was way off base when giving examples of open relationships where one of the partners was agreeing to it out of fear of losing the other partner. This is not an open relationship, this is a situation where there is abuse. An open relationship is first and foremost about trust and about the happiness of both partners.

The host of the show was also not helping by being a bit all over the place and allowing the discussion to veer off course.

My wife also points out that an open relationship is not about sex, it's about finding what truly makes you happy, what balance of various aspects, which may include sex, that is the optimal way for you as a unique individual to be happy. She says it's also about the awe of discovering your partner through experiences that we cannot really attain otherwise. Finally She was disappointed in the narrow-mindedness of the callers. There was more deceipt than openness in some of the things discussed.

Going back to Angelina Jolie's comment, the show could have been so much more, and it's too bad.
