"Open" Review in Publishers Weekly

It wasn't a full-on rave. But it wasn't too bad either. Here are the highlights:

"She writes movingly of how her perfect marriage unraveled...Block is unstintingly honest in her depictions of an open marriage's sexual and emotional entanglements...Readers are likely to be challenged and provoked by this book's insights into the surprising fluidities in fidelity and sexuality."

If you want to read the whole thing, you can find it on the Publishers Weekly site. Just scroll down on this page till you hit it.

I'm told that around 300,000 books are published a year and only 7,000 a year are reviewed by Publishers Weekly. Not too shabby...

  1. Good for you! And thank you for the comment. I'm not a real blogger cuz I don't read other people's but I had to read your first chapter after checking out the site. Wow! Hmmm, feminism is a waste of time I feel like sometimes. I grew up in a very religious, latino family. Everything I do is considered too radical. I totally agree about the conflicting messages though and the way that feminism, especially mainstrem feminism which to me seems like it has never addressed race and class and never had to do with people like me, totally puts a bummer on my sex life and what I choose to do or not do and how I choose to do it. I've just decided, fuck it. I'm liberated and I'll do what I want. If it's radical, it's radical; if it's cliche and ant-feminist, well then that's too damn bad. But societies' constructs has really made it challenging for us, even just deciding whether or not we should cook a meal for someone and what that might imply. Geeze. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Can't wait to check out the rest of your book.
